Pageturners Project
Rewriting How Youth Read the Reality
How we turn the page?
Why are we doing this?
Pageturners is more than a project — it's a shared journey across six countries to help young people reconnect with reading in the digital age. We’ve brought together public libaries, youth organizations, families, and local communities to co-create a new way of engaging with stories — on screens and on paper.
Pageturners is a European strategic partnership aimed at strengthening reading skills and media literacy among young people aged 13–17. It connects traditional reading practices with the digital realities of today’s youth, offering an innovative approach that makes reading engaging, inclusive, and hybrid.
In a world shaped by smartphones, notifications, and shortened attention spans, young people often struggle to concentrate on reading long-form texts or engage meaningfully with literature. Simultaneously, many youth workers and educators lack effective tools to support reading motivation and digital literacy. Pageturners addresses both challenges.
Across Europe, educators observe a growing disengagement from reading among youth. Long-form texts feel distant in a world of constant notifications and digital overload. At the same time, many youth professionals lack the resources or methods to address this shift effectively. Pageturners responds by combining:
the depth of paper-based reading,
the accessibility of digital microlearning, and
the power of storytelling for civic participation.
We aim to make reading a meaningful, reflective, and inclusive experience, regardless of the format.
